Local artist launches first solo exhibition
Tufnell Park-based artist, Gina Parr, will launch her first solo exhibition in London on Monday 16 February at The Coningsby Gallery, W1T 4RJ.
Parr’s paintings are the result of personal memories, childhood, family and places visited. The artist grew up in Devon and much of her work reflects this rural up-bringing - rolling hills, wild moors and dramatic seascapes played an enormous part in her childhood.
Of her work, she said: “The clue to the painted story is often in the title. Sometimes I play on words, making light, making a sense of joyful or painful memories with humour.
“The title also reflects the theme of the original emotional catalyst for the painting. However, during the course of painting, the surface colour, depth and texture grow and develop through chance happenings, which parallel my original emotional intent. This fascinates me as it also illustrates the chances and controls that are reflected in our own lives.
"I would like my work to convey a bold atmosphere, a mood, a scent of emotion all of which can be read in whichever way is chosen by the viewer, a trigger in itself for their own emotions, thoughts and
memories,” added Parr.
Viewings are from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm. The exhibition runs until Saturday 21 February.
