Help for Camden’s homeless
A consultation into plans for providing accommodation for homeless people in Camden has been launched.
The draft strategy aims to provide a range of accommodation that is good quality, sustainable, affordable for residents and value for money for the council.
The council’s vision is for people who have minimum support needs to be dispersed in accommodation among the community, preferably in the borough and not in large institutions.
Camden council’s executive member for homes and housing strategy, cllr Chris Naylor, said: “We want the provision and support to be tailored to each individual and family to meet their immediate needs, but, just as importantly, we see living in temporary accommodation as part of a journey towards independent living into a settled home.
“Our aim is to improve the help we give to our homeless, and so it’s crucial that we involve and listen to our current residents - this will affect the lives of those currently living in temporary accommodation, as well as those who come to us in future.
“This will also affect our staff and the wider community so it is important we consult with them too. We welcome views on the draft strategy - the consultation will be running until the end of April – please let us know what you think,” he added.
A workshop will also be held to hear the views of a cross-section of the wider community.

Following the end of the consultation period, the council executive will consider all the information and will make a final decision about future developments.
