Stop assaults on traffic wardens
Haringey Council has pledged that it will take legal action against anyone assaulting innocent parking attendants while at work.
The pledge follows a spate of attacks--17 in the last three months--and the prosecution last week of a man who seriously assaulted an attendant, kicking him after issuing a ticket.
Cllr Brian Haley, cabinet member for environment and conservation, says:
“Only this weekend we had attendants escape serious injury when a brick was thrown through the back window of their vehicle while they were sitting in it.
“We will protect our staff and will prosecute anyone who assaults them as they go about their lawful business. Some of the attacks against our staff have involved serious physical violence, knives and racial abuse. Clearly this is not acceptable.
“Nobody likes to get a parking ticket but the way to avoid that is to park legally.
“If anyone disputes their ticket the appeals process is well documented on the ticket. We cannot have innocent staff attacked in this manner.”
